Improvised tourniquet saves Oregon skier
Improvised tourniquet saves Oregon skier

Incredible story from the slopes of Oregon where on March 1st a skier who suffered a life-threatening injury was saved by a makeshift tourniquet.

Jonathan Friedland was riding under the Outback Chairlift at Mt. Bachelor when he fell and one of his skis sliced deep into his leg. The cut severed a major artery and exposed bone. Thankfully his girlfriend Ellie was nearby and quickly improvised a tourniquet using a jacket and the cord from a pair of Apple headphone. The jerry-rigged tourniquet stanched the blood flow until ski patrol arrived and applied a professional tourniquet.

Friedland was airlifted to a hospital where doctors addressed his  laceration and is alive and well thanks in large part to his quick thinking girlfriend.
