We’re headed into the last weekend of April with May coming up quick, and sadly that means the ski season is rapidly approaching its end. But California and Lake Tahoe area skiers can celebrate knowing that there’s at least one more winter storm headed towards their open slopes.
According to the National Weather Service, between 5pm on Friday and 11am on Sunday, the Greater Lake Tahoe area could see between 3 and 6 inches of snow accumulation at or above 7,000 feet, with 1-3 inches falling at lake level and up to 10 inches falling along the highest peaks.

In Mono County, home to Mammoth Mountain, 3 to 6 inches is expected along the Sierra crest with 10 to 12 inches reaching the highest peaks. Communities along Highway 395 can expect 1 to 3 inches of snowfall. The heaviest snowfall is expected between Friday night and Saturday morning, but isolated heavy snow showers could bring greater accumulations Saturday afternoon.
As always with storms like these, caution is advised while driving. Road conditions should be checked on before hitting the road and necessary travel should be done with the needed safety equipment and extra food and water.
There are just four ski areas still open in California headed into this weekend, Mammoth Mountain, Palisades Tahoe, Sugar Bowl, and Donner Ski Ranch. Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe, located in Nevada, is also open until this Sunday.
