For many, spring skiing is one of the biggest highlights of the season. Conditions are soft, the weather is gorgeous, and the sun is out. But if you aren’t used to it, skiing in slush can be quite a battle. Groomers can get very choppy very fast, so even the easiest runs can turn out to be very hard for beginners or intermediate skiers.

These types of conditions have a similar problem to to chop that comes after a pow day. It’s not moguls, at least not yet, but it still requires a bit more thinking than simply ripping on a groomer.

German ski instructor Marius Quast provided a guide to skiing this choppy snow, discussing the ideal types of skis, the proper technique, and what you should generally be looking for out of your form.
