Three individuals have been sentenced to both jail time and fines after each committed separate public land violations in Yellowstone National Park.
Douglas Wolfley, 49, of Fairview, Wyoming, received a 10-day term of incarceration with credit for 2 days served after pleading guilty to a DUI in the national park. That’s his third DUI in a 10 year span. Additionally, Wolfley pled guilty to possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. He was placed on on 3 years of unsupervised probation, including a ban from Yellowstone National Park, and will be required to pay $3,050 in fines and court costs.
Angela Flaherty, 44, of Seattle, Washington, received a 7-day term of incarceration after pleading guilty to leaving the boardwalk and viewing area around the Old Faithful geyser and walking around 10 feet onto the cone of the geyser. Another park visitor captured her conduct on video. Her behavior is a violation of 36 CFR 7.13(j). Flaherty will also be required to pay $40 in mandatory court costs.
Yiyang Shen, 25, of Doraville, Georgia, received a 7-day term of incarceration and five years of unsupervised probation, including a ban from Yellowstone National Park, after driving off the designated roadway and parking his vehicle in a thermal area. He was charged with both “operating a motor vehicle in a prohibited area in a manner that caused damage to park resources” and “foot travel in a thermal area not confined to any designated and marked trail or boardwalk.” Shen was also ordered to pay $1,050 in fines and court costs.
