Utah — Little Cottonwood Canyon is currently experiencing its most active pattern of the season. This has led to some epic powder days and an increased risk of avalanches.

Following a deep powder day yesterday, Snowbird closed its lifts early, and people began descending the congested canyon with their vehicles. However, an avalanche further delayed traffic. This avalanche, which occurred near Snowbird Entry 4, reached SR-210, striking three vehicles, all of which were partially buried. Luckily, no one was hurt.

In a video shared on Twitter, one user showed that his vehicle was struck by the slide. Twitter user Juston Puchar (@2investjp) shared videos of his truck getting stuck by an avalanche.

After the avalanche, UDOT requested that everyone return to the nearest parking lots. Snowbird ended up sending an urgent message to guests.

This avalanche resulted in a temporary closure of SR-210 for around three hours and brought Snowbird and Alta into interlodge. After some time passed, the interlodge was lifted, and SR-210 was temporarily reopened for a couple of hours to help bring downhill traffic out of the canyon.
