The National Park Service has issued a response to the tidal wave of headlines about the recent layoffs that saw approximately 5% of NPS employees let go.

With spring right around the corner and the general public eager to outdoors, the NPS wanted to reassure visitors that there are no systemwide alerts or closures amongst their 433 units which cover over 85 million acres across all states and U.S. territories.

Time will tell if these layoffs will impact National Park visitors’ experience once we enter peak months of summer tourism but the for now the NPS is standing firm that hiring seasonal workers in an effort to optimize and innovate workforce management will meet their needs and ensure “memorable and meaningful experiences for all.”
