Canadian lynx and bobcat can be pretty difficult to differentiate. They both have bobbed tails and are both generally smaller cats. Canadian lynx and bobcats do have a different range, with bobcats living throughout the lower 48 United States and up into southern Canada and Canadian lynx living through much of Canada, Alaska, and the northern most portions of some the lower 48, but the overlap means in some places they can be very difficult to differentiate.

This little fellow filmed crossing the slopes of RED Mountain Resort in British Columbia is, at least according to the resort, a lynx. Lynx typically ignore humans, remaining mostly active at night and posing very little threat. But if cornered or threatened, they could attack in self defense. Like any animal, it’s always important to give them plenty of space.

RED Mountain Resort is fiercely independent, existing as the oldest ski resort in Western Canada. They see an average snowfall of 300 inches, offering skiers and snowboarders 3,850 total skiable acres and 119 total marked trails. With a base elevation of 3,887 feet and a summit elevation of 6,807 feet, RED has a vertical drop of 2,919 feet.
