Santa Claus made it to Bend, Oregon’s Mt. Bachelor a bit late this Christmas, bringing the gift of a hefty snowfall the night after Christmas day, rather than the night before.
Mt. Bachelor’s snow stake put the resort’s overnight snowfall somewhere between 14 and 15 inches, with a total of 17 inches in the past 24 hours. With that snowfall, the mountain is up to a base depth of 84 inches, with a season snowfall total of 178 inches.
The snow storm isn’t over, either. Resort live cameras show a ton of snow continuing to come down with fairly high winds accompanying it. And a look at the mountain’s weather forecast shows just one thing over the next several days: snow, snow, and more snow. Every day until Tuesday could bring snow to the Oregon resort.
With snowfall this good, it’s important to remember the risks of snow immersion suffocation and tree wells. Ride with a partner and keep them in sight!
“Beware: Snow immersion suffocation (SIS) and tree well risks are HIGH today. Ski or ride with a partner and keep them in sight at all times. Stick to open, groomed trails to minimize SIS hazards. Educate yourself on deep snow safety.” – Mt. Bachelor
