Chris Tomer snowfall forecast.
Chris Tomer snowfall forecast.

Everyone who celebrates Christmas likes to hope for a white Christmas (at least if you live somewhere that typically sees snow). Unfortunately many places in the lower 48 states are lacking snow coverage right now (at least outside of the mountains), and there doesn’t seem to be a ton of snow headed that way any time soon.

Meteorologist Chris Tomer is forecasting very little snowfall for New England and the Northeast before and after Christmas, with just a few inches at some resorts between 12/19 and 12/28. A Christmas Eve storm could bring some decent snowfall totals to the Tahoe area, eventually moving into the Wasatch and the Colorado mountains through Christmas Day.

The storm track through December 23 really favors the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia, though the rain/snow line is fairly high for both areas. Through today (December 19) and tomorrow around Whistler Blackcomb, areas above 5,000 feet will likely see snow, while those below that line are likely to see a mixture of snow and rain. In the Pacific Northwest that number is even higher, with the rain/snow line sitting at or above 7,000 feet at Mt. Baker.
