Last week was a good one for many ski areas across North America. Colorado saw some serious snowfall, California had its share, and some resorts in northern New England basically saw their first major snowstorm of the year. We aren’t likely to see a heap of snowfall headed anywhere throughout the first few days of this week, sadly, but Chris Tomer’s seven day forecast looks pretty good for New Englanders.
Meteorologist Chris Tomer‘s near daily mountain weather updates provide a detailed look at snowfall and storm possibility for much of North America, helping winter recreators across the continent plan ahead with the weather. His experience is extensive, with around 20 years of weather consulting including for major expeditions around the world and to the top of Earth’s highest mountains.
One thing to note outside of the snow forecast: it’s looking like it’ll be a cold week for many mountains in New England. At Killington, for example, the highest temperature over the next five days looks like it will come on Thursday with a high of 30°F. If that holds true for Northeastern ski resorts, snowmaking could be plentiful.
As for the snowfall forecast, a few storm systems coming in between December 2 and December 11 could bring around a foot to both Stowe and Jay Peak, while several other Vermont mountains could get around half a foot. In Maine, both Sugarloaf and Sunday River could see some snowfall, with Sugarloaf looking at around 8″ and Sunday River looking at around 4″.
