Two of Iowa’s ski areas are officially open for the 2024/25 ski and snowboard season, with both Seven Oaks Recreation in Boone County and Sundown Mountain Resort in Dubuque County opening this past Saturday, November 30.

Sundown started on Saturday with 4 open runs, Turkey, Sun Express, Buckaroo, & Sunshine, in addition to several terrain park features on Sunshine. Lifts were spinning from 11am to 4pm through opening weekend, and by Sunday, December 1, three more trails were able to open. Sundown is closed again Monday-Thursday of this week, but should be going again with regular season hours beginning on Friday, December 6.

Meanwhile at Seven Oaks Recreation, Saturday kicked off with early season skiing and snowboarding from 11am to 5pm. School Yard, Carters Crossing, and Abby’s Alley were open to kick off the season, accessed by Valley View Triple Chair, and Slow Poke. Additionally several park features, including a 20′ round rail, a. small kicker, a 10′ round rail, and a 12′ pyramid, were open for the park fans.

Seven Oaks Recreation is also closed between Monday and Thursday of this week, though things should get going once again with evening skiing from 4pm to 9pm on Friday, December 6. Cheers to the snowmakers for making the ski season happen!
