Stowe, Vermont — The commute to Stowe Mountain Resort hasn’t been easy for years. The narrow two-lane Mountain Road (Route 108) is the only way to the Vermont ski resort in the winter.
After a drama-filled 2021-22 season, Stowe Mountain Resort announced they were introducing paid parking at most of their parking lots. Parking in their main parking lots during weekends and holidays costs $30 if you arrive between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Those who arrive after 2 p.m. can park in these lots for free. However, this policy doesn’t apply to early and late seasons. In addition, those with four or more passengers in their vehicle can park for free. While it’s a controversial program, it has reduced congestion on the Mountain Road.
This week, Stowe Mountain Resort released a video guide to help those with navigating this parking program. To summarize, if you park in Mansfield and Midway lots, you’ll need to pay for parking. You park your car, then walk over to one of the kiosks, where you insert your license plate and payment info. For free parking, go to the Toll House.
If you want to avoid paying for parking, you can also take the Mountain Road Shuttle. Stowe advises those staying in nearby lodging to take the bus, but it is also a decent idea for those wanting to avoid paying for parking at Stowe.
