Not precisely sure what commitment level is required to earn a winter pass at Taos Ski Resort in New Mexico by participating in their bootpacking program, but it’s pretty sweet they even offer it.
Bootpacking is a time honored (and carbon neutral) method of firming up a snowpack’s base layer which helps solidify and preserve the precious commodity. It’s pretty straightforward, just walk down the slope and compact as much snow as possible.
When it comes to bootpacking, the more the merrier, so Taos enlists ski patrollers, instructors, employees and variety of volunteers from folks who do it for the exercise and love of the mountain to those looking to score a season pass for their efforts.
No matter your motivation to participate in bootpacking, we appreciate the physical effort it takes to manually improve snow conditions at Taos. Cheers to the bootpackers!
