YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyoming – Yellowstone National Park recorded a 3% increase in August visitors from 2023, giving 2024 the highest visitor numbers so far since 2021.

August of 2024 brought 871,163 recreation visits into Yellowstone, compared to last years 846,389. August 2021, however, saw 921,844 recreation visits, giving this year a 5% decrease from 3 years ago.

In total this year, Yellowstone has seen 3,497,254 recreation visits, a 6% increase from 2023 (3,308,924 recreation visits), and a 3% decrease from 2021 (3,590,609 recreation visits). 2021 was Yellowstone’s busiest in history, seeing a total of 4,860,242 throughout the entire year.

2023 saw a lower 4,501,382 throughout the entire year. Comparatively, 2020, when the park was closed from March 24 through May 17, saw a total of 3,806,306. 2022, however, marked an even lower year, bringing just 3,290,242 visitors into the park. Historic flooding lead to a closure from June 13 through June 21, and only three entrances opened on June 22.

Visitation statistics are available going as far back as 1904, even though Yellowstone became a national park in 1872. In 1904, just 13,727 people visited the legenedary national park.
