Broomfield, Colorado — It looks like Vail Resorts is going all in on expanding into Europe.
Last week, Blue News reported that Vail Resorts is in talks to acquire the Flims Laax Falera ski resort from the Weisse Arena Gruppe. Vail Resorts, known for its expansive portfolio of properties in North America and Australia, has recently begun acquiring European ski resorts. Over the past few years, they’ve acquired Andermatt-Sedrun and Crans Montana.
Pierre Besson, who runs the Magic Mountains Cooperation, a Swiss ski resort company, said that Vail Resorts is eyeing five to six ski resorts in Austria and Switzerland for future acquisition. They sell the Magic Pass, which gives access to over 80 Swiss ski resorts, a similar type of product to the Epic Pass.
Situated above the towns of Films, Laax, and Falera, calling this Swiss ski resort huge would be an understatement. It has a varied terrain network, with 214 km (roughly 133 miles) of trails. Laax is regarded as one of the best ski resorts on the planet for terrain park skiers and riders. Its lift infrastructure is among the most modern in the world, with numerous gondolas and trams. They recently opened an on-demand gondola, which lets you choose where you’re heading before departing. More stages of this are planned in the future.
Vail Resorts and Weisse Arena Gruppe aren’t commenting on these matters… For now.
