There’s a good chance you’ve seen and old pair of ski cable bindings at some point as a skier or snowboarder. They’re hanging in shops, bars, and ski lodges across the country. But most of our viewers probably haven’t actually used them, or even really know how they work. This clip from 1941’s The Basic Principles of Skiing explains how they work, and how they’re adjusted.
The full 39 minute film was actually created as a training film for the United States war department. It covers, obviously, the basic principles of skiing needed for mountain troops, and was produced alongside the 15th Infantry Ski Patrol. You can watch the full movie here.
