Beaver, Utah — Last week was a heartbreaking one for Utah. The Cottonwood Fire burned its way through the Tushar Mountains, including at Eagle Point Resort. We knew the ski resort had taken notable damage, but didn’t know the full extent until last night.
Last night, Eagle Point Resort revealed the initial damage assessment from the Cottonwood Fire. The ski resort lost various buildings, including the Canyonside Lodge and the Warming Station at Tushar Ridge. Around 300 of Eagle Point’s 600 skiable acres were scarred, including damage to four chairlifts. For residents, more than 100 condos and 30 cabins were lost to the flames.
Some areas were spared from the fire, including the Monarch lift and terrain pod, the Skyline terrain zone, the Aspen Crest real estate development, Eagle’s snowmaking infrastructure, and their internet and cell phone towers.
A final assessment of the damage is pending, so we don’t yet know the full details. What this post makes clear is this: it’s the most significant damage a U.S. ski resort has seen since the Caldor Fire reached Sierra-at-Tahoe in 2021. Like Sierra-at-Tahoe, Eagle Point intends to rebuild.
Tuesday will be the first time many Eagle Point homeowners can return to their properties to assess the damage thanks to a limited road opening. As of Tuesday morning, the Cottonwood Fire has reached nearly 93,000 acres and is 4% contained.
