Harbor Springs, Michigan- After installing a bubble six chairlift last summer, The Highlands, formerly known as Boyne Highlands, is planning another major chairlift upgrade this coming offseason.

Today, the Michigan ski resort announced that they are replacing the Interconnect chairlift with a new Doppelmayr fixed-grip triple chairlift. The Interconnect chairlift is the only way for skiers and riders to reach North Peak, as this terrain pod doesn’t have a base area or parking. Interconnect’s ride time will be 1/3 faster compared to its predecessor, and will also have a larger carrying capacity. The new Interconnect chairlift will have RFID gates and an adjustable loading carpet at the base terminal.

Mike Chumbler, president and general manager of The Highlands, described the importance of the new lift to the ski resort:

“We are eager to upgrade our Interconnect lift with a new Doppelmayr fixed-grip design to enhance the experience for guests next winter season. With improved speed, efficiency, modern conveniences, and safety features, we are confident that this addition will help build on the overall skiing and riding adventures at The Highlands.”

The Highlands have been through many changes over the past couple of years. This season saw the opening of Camelot 6, a stunning high-speed six-pack bubble chairlift. As part of its Highlands 2030 plan, other recent improvements include renovating the Donald Ross Golf Course, the addition of upscale rooms to the Main Lodge hotel, and opening the Discovery Center, which serves as a check-in point for overnight guests.

Future plans include more improvements to the Donald Ross golf course, a new Doon Brae Short golf course, and further additions to the Main Lodge.
