Okanogan, Washington- It’s been a rough season for ski areas in the Pacific Northwest, with many mountains opening later than usual. As a way to make up for some of their losses, a Washington ski area is introducing a lifetime season pass.

Yesterday, the Loup Loup Ski Bowl announced that they are now offering a lifetime season pass. With a cost of $6000, the season pass gives you access to the Ski Bowl for the rest of your life. According to Loup Loup, there are multiple incentives to purchasing the pass: the one-time purchase means you can shred there for the rest of your time on this planet, you get to ensure the longevity of the ski area, and it’s an inflation-proof purchase, as prices for skiing are likely to increase over time.

Lifetime season passes have a complicated history in the ski industry. The top example that comes to mind is at Killington Resort. In the formative years of the Vermont ski resort, lifetime passes were offered to those who invested. These passes were honored in the decades that followed. However, after SP Land Co. and Powdr Corp. purchased the mountain from the American Skiing Corporation in 2007, the lifetime passes were no longer honored. Those who sued the new owners were unsuccessful, and lifetime passes haven’t been offered or honored by Killington since. A few other ski areas, like Mt. Bohemia, have sold lifetime passes, and still honor them. The scenario where the lifetime pass is no longer honored seems less likely at Loup Loup, as it’s a non-profit organization.
