This week, a heli-skiing tragedy in British Columbia left three people dead and four seriously injured. One of the helicopters that was carrying Northern Escape Heli-Skiing guests crashed into a mountain for unknown reasons. While the cause of death has yet to be determined, some are calling for more consistent regulations.

On yesterday’s BC Today show, Michelle Eliot spoke with John Gradek, who’s co-ordinator of the aviation management program at McGill University. In the video below, John Gradek said that he believes there needs to be more consistent regulations and better oversight around Canadian heli-skiing for a tragedy like this to not happen again. He believes that due to the expensive cost of heli-skiing, new operators want to get into the business.

However, it should be noted that Northern Escape is far from a new heli-skiing program, as they are celebrating their 20th anniversary this winter
