As we get ready for ski season in the Northern Hemisphere, the ski resorts in the Southern Hemisphere are wrapping things up. Crazy how the world works. While some countries with ski resorts, like Australia, struggled to have a successful winter, other countries, like Argentina and Chile saw some big dumps. Ultimately, time is running out, with some mountains closing this weekend, while others are staying open to mid to late October. Here are the projected closing dates for ski resorts in the Southern Hemisphere:

Argentina

  • Cerro Castor: October 1st
  • Las Leñas: October 2nd
  • Cerro Catedral: October 15th

Australia: No ski resorts are open after a warm and wet winter. If there’s a meme that accurately describes their winter, it would be this…

Chile

  • Portillo: October 1st
  • Corralco: October 9th
  • El Colorado: October 9th
  • Valle Nevado: October 15th

New Zealand

  • Broken River: October 1st
  • Ōhau Snow Fields: October 1st
  • Treble Cone: October 1st
  • Mt. Olympus: October 7th
  • The Remarkables: October 8th
  • Cardrona: October 15th
  • Mt. Hutt: October 15th
  • Mt. Ruapehu (Whakapapa & Tūroa): October 23rd

In honor of Mt. Ruapehu likely being the last ski resort open in the Southern Hemisphere, here are some highlights from this winter:
