If you want to learn more about Oregon’s ski history or lost ski resorts, you’ve come to the right place.

Back in December 2020, Deschutes Public Library released a video that details the history of the lost ski areas in Oregon. In the video down below, Steve Stenkamp, who is an outdoorsman and an amateur archaeologist-history buff, discusses the history of Oregon skiing. In the discussion, Steve discusses the currently operating ski resorts in Oregon, the former recreational ski clubs in the state, the history of rope tows in the state, and describes in detail that didn’t survive to the present day.

For me, the coolest part of the video was learning about the history of ski areas around Crater Lake. Some people backcountry ski there, so it’s cool to imagine what it would have been like to ski lift-serviced terrain there.  To learn more about Oregon’s ski history, check out the Lost Oregon Ski Areas Facebook page.
