32-year-old skier from Colorado Springs man is lucky to be alive after falling 2,000 feet while skiing a 14er over the weekend.
FOX31 reports the search and rescue team from the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Wilson Peak (outside of Telluride) on Saturday afternoon to help the injured skier.
The skier was conscious and alert but had traumatic injuries from the extended fall. He was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital by helicopter.
The entire mission took 3 hours start to finish and involved Sheriff’s Deputies and nine SAR members. Tip of the cap to San Miguel County Sheriff SAR unit and backcountry rescuers across the country and the world. You save our butts when things go sideways and appreciate the hell outta you. Thanks!

Sheriff’s Office Deputies and a Search and Rescue (SAR) team responded to Wilson Peak outside of Telluride Saturday afternoon for a 32 year-old CO Springs man injured after a 2,000 ft fall while skiing the North face of Wilson Peak. A helicopter inserted a SAR team to the site, they packaged the patient and flew back to the Telluride airport where he was transferred to a Careflight for transport to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction. The man suffered traumatic injuries but was conscious and alert. Three Sheriff’s Deputies and nine SAR members participated in the three hour mission.
