“Ski patrol responded with a trained team of patrollers and four avalanche dogs and conducted a thorough search of the area. No individuals were found and no one has been reported missing. A naturally occurring inbounds avalanche was reported yesterday at Snowmass Ski Area and thankfully no one was buried in the slide. Aspen Public Radio reports a ski patroller who was riding up the High Alpine chairlift witnessed the slide occur on the Rock Island run around 1:25 p.m.
A search was conducted and no victims were found. Surrounding terrain was closed for the day. A warming trend is increasing the potential for large wet avalanches in the area and Aspen Skiing Company’s VP of Communications, Jeff Hanle, wants folks to know additional terrain closures may be enacted for the safety of their guests:
“With current warm temperatures, steep terrain across all of our mountains may close as conditions dictate. Please obey all closures and exercise caution.”
