Whiteface Mountain – Located in Wilmington, New York, Whiteface Mountain is one of the most iconic ski areas in the country. Hunter Mountain – Located in Hunter, New York, Hunter Mountain is a popular ski area in the Catskill Mountains. The mountain has a little something for everyone, with runs ranging from beginner to expert. Hunter Mountain has 67 trails and 13 lifts, including a six-person high-speed lift that takes you to the summit. The mountain’s terrain is divided into three main areas: Hunter West, Hunter North, and Hunter East. Hunter West is home to the mountain’s most challenging terrain, including several double black diamond runs. Hunter North has mostly intermediate and advanced terrain, while Hunter East has mostly beginner-friendly runs.

Hunter Mountain is also known for its après-ski scene. The mountain’s base lodge has several restaurants and bars, as well as a spa and fitness center.

Belleayre Ski Resort, located in the Catskill Mountains of New York State, is a ski area that has been loved by locals and visitors alike for decades. The resort boasts 50 trails spread out over 175 skiable acres. Belleayre has a little bit of everything, from beginner-friendly runs to challenging black diamonds. The lower mountain has mostly beginner and intermediate terrain, while the upper mountain is home to the resort’s more challenging runs.

Belleayre is also known for its extensive snowmaking system, which covers 96% of the mountain. This means that even in a low snow year, Belleayre can still offer top-notch skiing and snowboarding. The resort also has several dining options, including the Overlook Lodge, which offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The resort is family-friendly, with a dedicated learning area for kids and a ski and snowboard school.

Plattekill Ski Area, located in Roxbury, New York, is a family-owned and operated ski area that has been in business for over 25 years. The resort is known for its natural snow and challenging terrain, making it a favorite among expert skiers and snowboarders. Plattekill has 38 trails spread out over 110 skiable acres, with a vertical drop of 1,100 feet. The mountain has a good mix of black and blue runs.

Plattekill is unique in that it prides itself on being an “anti-resort.” The ski area has a laid-back, no-frills atmosphere that appeals to those who prefer a more authentic skiing experience. The resort has a single base lodge with a bar and restaurant, and there are no high-speed lifts or fancy amenities. Instead, Plattekill focuses on providing skiers and snowboarders with great snow and challenging terrain.
