In late April, ski resorts generally begin shutting down their lifts and closing up their mountains. Maybe it happens in early April, maybe in May, or maybe, every once in a while, the mountains close in June. Sure, there’s summer operations, but for a majority of mountains, the summer months mean a massive reduction in man power. Everyone goes home and nobody thinks about skiing for several months…
Okay, OBVIOUSLY that’s not true. There’s a ton of work that goes on during the summer to prepare for the next ski season. There’s pass sales, rental bookings, trail preparations, and a ton of maintenance. Specifically, there’s a ton of vehicles that require maintenance, and if you don’t believe me, just take a look at Breckenridge‘s vehicle breakdown.
The Breckenridge vehicle list is massive. It includes: 30 snowcats, over 56 snowmobiles, 103 trucks, 46 pieces of heavy equipment, 19 buses, and 20 side-by-sides. That’s around 275 vehicles that require maintenance throughout the summer. That requirement doesn’t stop when the snow falls, though, as vehicles will have plenty of problems during the ski season. In short, the Breckenridge vehicle maintenance team has their hands FULL. Without these guys, ski resorts would never be able to truly operate.
