Grand Targhee Resort in Alta, Wyoming is undergoing some major changes this offseason, as the top of Peaked Mountain will be lift-serviced for the first time. The Colter Lift is a Doppelmayr D-Line high-speed six-pack chairlift that will carry two thousand people per hour. The just over five-minute ride time will have a vertical drop of 1,815 feet. Another perk of the new lift is that all the chairs can be stored at night in a maintenance bay, eliminating the risk of rime ice.

So far this summer, Grand Targhee has given a couple of updates on the project. On June 3rd, they showed that the parts to the lift had arrived. Yesterday, they showed the progress on the foundation of the top terminal. Unfortunately, the gain of this new lift means the closure of their cat skiing operations, which have been a part of Grand Targhee’s culture since 1989. The Colter lift is expected to open during the 2022-23 season.
