It’s pretty common to see Deer and Doe when you’re driving. For example, I saw a herd of them while I was driving last Friday night in New Hampshire. Wisconsin Public Radio reports that a scientific study found that deer-auto collisions cause $8 billion in damage per year. With these risks, scientists have looked for alternative ways to keep drivers and deer safe. A research study was done by the National Academy Of Sciences, and it found when wolves roam the landscape, they can help reduce deer-auto collisions by 24%. The study, which was conducted in Wisconsin, found that “wolves reduce deer populations and also scare deer away from linear landscape features, including roads, that wolves often prowl.” The study cautions though that future studies have to confirm the findings by the National Academy of the Sciences. So if you’re ever driving and see a deer rushing towards your car, press the brakes and cry wolf. Image Credits: Wolf Park, Scott Carroll of Unsplash, Robert Larsson of Unsplash
