Wind holds might be every skier and snowboarder’s least favorite thing, but they are absolutely necessary for the safety of guests.
Mission Ridge Ski & Board Resort in Wenatchee, WA captured the video below over the weekend. It shows one of the carriers on Chair 2 blowing violently in the wind.
The thread of Tweets explains what happened that morning.
(part 1) As the sun came up today we were excited for a beautiful, sunny Saturday on the mountain. Forecasts called for clear skies, comfy temps, and low winds. As we started loading carriers on Chair 2 this morning at approx 7:30am, winds in the upper basin started to pick up. pic.twitter.com/VGkoRgiyhC

(part 3) Even though it is calm in the Base Area and on much of the mountain, the winds in the upper basin are strong enough to have Chair 2 on hold for now. We hope this gives some perspective into why Chair 2 is on wind hold. Guest and staff safety is always our top priority.

Thankfully nobody was on the lift when this incident occurred, and good on Mission Ridge for being so transparent as to why Chair 2 was on wind hold.
Communication between a ski area and guests like this is so valuable, and I really hope to see more of it in the future.
Bravo Mission Ridge!
