Russian double amputee Rustam Nabiev has climbed Mount Manaslu, the eighth highest peak in the world. This is a true showcase of an unimaginable level of strength and determination.
According to an article in Nepal Live Today, the 29-year old is a former paratrooper. In 2015, his barracks collapsed burying him under tons of rubble. Miraculously, he was rescued but he lost his legs in the incident. Nabiev has been bagging some of the highest peaks in the world. He has already climbed Russia’s 18,500-foot Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe.
The video of his expedition up Mount Manaslu is even exhausting to watch. Relying on his upper body and core strength, Nabiev makes his way up the mountain. This includes pulling himself up robes, rappelling down walls, and crossing gnarly crevasses. Mount Manaslu has been nicknamed the “killer mountain” for its high number of deaths and Nabiev successfully scaled it without legs. Truly amazing.
