Extremely tragic news from Russia where 3 people are confirmed dead and 6 others still missing after an avalanche hit a ski resort in Siberia on Saturday. ABC reports the avalanche swept over several buildings at the Otdelnaya Mountain ski complex outside the Arctic city of Norilsk just before midnight. Entire houses were buried in snow. About 250 rescuers searched the area for hours in a snowstorm and -9° temperatures, recovering the bodies of a married couple and their 18-month-old son. The couple’s second child, a 14-year-old boy, was found alive and hospitalized with serious injuries. The Siberian Times reports the four were the ski lift director Vlad Popov, his wife, and their two children. Absolutely heartbreaking. We send our deepest condolences to all involved.
