The coach of the Jamaica’s first Olympic bobsleigh team, Sepp Haidacher, died earlier this month at the age of 78. A memorial service will be held at a church in Voldöpp, Austria today.

Haidacher worked with the Caribean bobsleighers to get them ready for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary where they competed in the two and four-man events.

Haidacher was immortalized by the late John Candy in the film Cool Runnings.

Haidacher was known as the “Godfather” of Jamaica bobsleigh.
