“It’s critical to keep the dogs working, to make sure they know that they still have a job.” -Trevor John Solitude Mountain Resort Avy Dog Coordinator Trevor John

The lifts might not be spinning in Utah but that doesn’t mean the avalanche dogs are taking the summer off.  KUTV reports that trainers and dog teams from all nine ski resorts on the Wasatch Front meet up once a month to keep their skills sharp for the upcoming winter months.

All participants are members of Wasatch Backcountry Rescue, a nonprofit group of full-time rescue professionals. If you see them out practicing at your ski hill be friendly but respectful that what they are training for is of the upmost seriousness and make sure to give them ample room to operate.
