For those wondering whether or not Kelly Slater’s wave tech would be used during the summer Olympics in Tokyo– don’t hold your breath.

On Tuesday, the president of the International Surf Association (ISA) confirmed that the venue would not include a wave pool but instead will be held at Tsurigasaki Beach just an hour and half east of Tokyo in the Chiba prefecture.
According to the AFP, the idea of a wavepool at the 2020 Olympic Games had been floated by some at the WSL including 11-time World Surf League champ and wavepool innovater, Kelly Slater. IOC officials have not ruled out their use in the future– just not this time around.
