Ski areas in New Zealand are about to have a bluebird pow day of epic proportions… that is once the avalanche risk is mitigated, roads are cleared, and lifties dig out their terminals.

Mt Hutt is reporting a whopping 38″ of new snow followed closely by Roundhill and Ohau ski fields. Queenstown areas reported less snowfall with Treble Cone seeing just over a foot of fresh, which ain’t half bad.

“Mt Hutt is ON HOLD until 10am. Boom! The storm has cleared and left us with 1.2m of powder. A thin breakable rime layer formed right at the end of the storm but we have been reliably informed by staff on the mountain that there is some damn good skiing and riding out there.”

The losers were Cardrona and Coronet Peak both of which missed out on the big snowfall. Mt Ruapehu (*Turoa + Whakapa) have likely seen more snow than they are reporting.
