It is being reported that a 75-year-old man was killed by a rockfall in Mount Rainier National Park near Eagle Peak Trail on Thursday.

The man was reported missing at 1:30pm Thursday. That afternoon rockfalls were reported in the area by other hikers in the area.

A helicopter crew spotted the mans body, extracted him, and confirmed that he was dead.

It’s currently unclear if the man fell or was struck by falling rocks.

“He was by himself.  Because nobody saw where he went or what happened, I’m not sure we’re going to have a whole lot of answers.” –  Patti Wold, park spokeswoman
