Just 30 miles east of Tensleep, Wyoming on HWY 16 lies the sleepy but sick Meadowlark Ski Lodge.

Ski Hill Shoutout: Lost Trail Powder Mountain, Montana

While this ski hill is itty-bitty compared to its western big brothers, Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole, Meadowlark Ski Lodge is the main destination for skiers and snowboarders living in the sledding capitals of Sheridan, Buffalo, and Tensleep. The resort boasts a 1,100′ vertical drop with a lakeside, base elevation of 8,500′. The best months to find consistent snow are January, February, and March.

And while the ski area hosts a modest 300 acres of skiable terrain, that small area includes a couple of classic chutes such as “Hole in the Wall” and “Hustler,” which on a good day offer more than 1k vertical feet of consistent descents.

“Meadowlark Ski Lodge offers comfortable amenities for winter recreation in the Big Horn Mountains. Meadowlark Ski Lodge features 300 accessible acres serviced by 2 chair lifts and offers a view of the 320-acre Meadowlark Lake.” OnTheSnow

Right now, the ski hill is offering 2016-2017 season passes for $450 and kids under 5 ski for free with the purchase of a season pass.

About Ski Hill Shoutout

Few skiers have the privilege of learning in amazing destination resorts such as Jackson Hole, Whistler, or Squaw Valley. Instead, most of us fell in love with the sport shredding local hills. We came to these (often smaller) local hills because they offered easy access, low prices, and accessibility. Sadly, many of these local hills have either died or are struggling to survive. At Unofficial, we understand that these hills are the life blood of our sport. Through this feature, we hope to raise awareness of smaller ski areas, and if possible, direct a few readers their way.
