Professional surfer and Pipeline local, Jamie O’Brien, acted quickly after a bodyboarder from New Jersey knocked himself out on the reef yesterday. Bodyboarding world champion and off-duty lifeguard, Guilherme Tamega, was the first to reach Dylan McGinn after surfacing unconscious, O’Brien quickly paddled over and joined in the rescue.

Once onshore McGinn did not have a pulse and wasn’t breathing but was resuscitated by lifeguards with a combination of CPR and defibrillation and was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.

Hats off to the Guilherme Tamega, Jamie O’Brien, and the lifeguards on duty at Pipeline.

REMEMBER: If you see something, do something….sometimes the most important rescuer is the one that is there.
