Today, Sunday River opened to skiers and riders as the second ski area in the United States to open its slopes to the public after Killington started running operations yesterday.
As it looks, the East Coast is still reigning supreme after a monumental season this past year and with warm temperatures still plaguing the west into late October.
Right now, Sunday River has 4 trails open.
“We’re rocking top-to-bottom skiing and riding today off the Locke Mountain Triple with loading at both the base and the mid-station and open terrain on T2 and Sunday Punch, including an early-season park with three rails at mid-mountain. The last lift uploads will be at 3PM, but Barker Bar will be open to relive your opening day glory.” – Sunday River Website

Normally, Arapahoe Basin or Loveland would be the first ski areas to start spinning lifts but this year, the East Coast took first place. Also recent snowfall is making “Skiing the East” look good as we move into the 2015/2016 ski season.
