Washington — It was pretty rough sledding at Mt. Baker Ski Area a few weeks ago. After a pineapple express storm, conditions improved there last week. This allowed them to open up a few days ago.
Mt. Baker had a season passholders day on Sunday, as the loyal fans of the snowy ski area got dibs on the fresh snow. Frankly, I think that’s something more ski resorts should do.
Mt. Baker officially opened for the season yesterday, and it’s already ripping. Over 90% of the ski area’s terrain is now open. As of Tuesday morning, the Washington ski area has received 77 inches of snow over the past five days. The ski area received 13″ over the past 24 hours. The snow depth at Heather Meadows is 62″, while it’s 103″ at Pan Dome.
We’ll see if the good times keep rolling for Mt. Baker, but at this point, it has the best value in the Washington ski industry. No parking reservations, limited road issues, and lots of snow make it a worthwhile visit for those in the PNW this winter. A key thing to note: HWY 542 currently has one lane of traffic for around a three-mile stretch.
