New Mexico — After a dry winter, Sandia Peak is making a brief comeback for the 2024-25 season.
Today, Sandia Peak Ski Area reopened for the first time since February 17th. This is thanks to 11 inches of snowfall during a 24-hour time span. In addition, Sandia Peak received another inch of powder overnight.
This is being defined by Sandia Peak as a limited opening, with only Lift 4 operating. Lift 4, which was revived after being shut down for around three years, services beginner terrain. With Sandia Peak referring to this as a bonus day, this will presumably be Sandia Peak’s final day of the 2024-25 season.
Opened back in the late 1930s, Sandia Peak is the oldest ski area in New Mexico. The ski area features 35 trails, five lifts, and a vertical drop of 1700 feet. Located at the summit is the upper terminal for a tram, which travels up the other side of Sandia Peak. After not operating for a couple of years, it was taken over by Mountain Capital Partners. They reopened it for the 2023-24 season and opened the slopes early for the 2024-25 season, thanks to sizeable November snowfall.
