Highly recommend watching this award winning 24 minute documentary exploring Colorado’s network of abandoned ski resorts as seen through the eyes of backcountry skiers. The film features loads of excellent interviews with former owners, ski patrol, and historians with a healthy dose of powder skiing. Resorts explored include Geneva Basin Ski Area (1963-1981), Berthoud Pass Ski Area (1937-2001) and Cuchara Mountain Resort (1981-2000) which has made a recent comeback as a non-profit ski hill.
“A crew of backcountry skiers set out to explore Colorado’s lost ski areas in hopes to find adventure amongst the ruins. Instead, they discover the truth behind what made these areas close their doors for good and what skiing used to be like before mega resorts and climate change wreaked havoc on independently owned ski areas.”
