Broomfield, Colorado — As the 2024-25 season is coming to a close for most North American ski areas, Vail Resorts is making some not-so-epic layoffs.
The Denver Post reports that Vail Resorts has announced the layoffs of 64 workers from its Broomfield headquarters. The individuals fired were a part of Vail’s HR (Human Resources) Shared Services department. This unit will be eliminated entirely, with the first layoffs starting on June 2nd. The employees who have been fired have been notified.
These layoffs are reportedly part of Vail Resorts’ “Resource Efficiency Transformation Plan,” which was announced by the corporation last September. Three tenants are guiding Vail Resorts through this plan: scaled operations, global shared services to their newest properties, and expanded workforce management technology.
They stated in September 2024 that they believe that this plan will lead to $100 million in saved costs by the end of the 2026 fiscal year. In the second quarter of 2025 earnings report, CEO Kirsten Lynch noted that the efficiency plan remains on schedule.
