Colorado — Are you an advanced skier or snowboarder who’s planning a ski trip to Colorado? Thanks to its plethora of steeps, glades, and bumps, it’s hard for an advanced skier to become bored with the terrain across the Centennial State. But which ski resort in the state offers the best-black diamond terrain?
The following video from YouTuber SRG Skiing is a good starting point. In the video, he picks his five favorite ski resorts for advanced terrain. The video serves as a ranking and insider guide that will help guests figure out how to navigate these wide-ranging ski resorts.
Number five is Wolf Creek. The most memorable advanced skiing is off the Alberta chairlift. Due to this being a slow fixed-grip chairlift, it allows for powder turns that aren’t tracked out quickly.
Ranked at the number four spot is Copper Mountain. The best advanced terrain is in the East Village off the Super Bee, Alpine, and Resolution lifts. Further up the mountain, the Excelerator and Storm King lifts offer some quality bump and groomed skiing for advanced skiers and riders. The Sierra and Mountain Chief chairlifts are also worth visiting if you’re a fan of moguls.
Winter Park is third on the list. The Winter Park and Pioneer Territories have some memorable black diamonds, but it’s best known for Mary Jane. Iron Horse, Pony Express, and the Challenger lifts are best ways to access this terrain, as Super Gauge can become crowded.
Steamboat is placed second for its memorable advanced trails and glades off of Sunshine and Storm Peaks. Pony Express also has some nice bump runs and is usually less crowded in the morning compared to Storm and Sunshine Peaks. Morningside can also be memorable, but it’s best not to visit first thing on a powder day because of the limited lift capacity. It should be noted that since this video was released, Steamboat has expanded onto Mahogany Ridge, which has added more memorable advanced and expert terrain to the ski resort.
The top pick is Vail. This is for Vail’s LEGENDARY BACK BOWLS, which features what feels like endless bowl skiing.
