Ski Cooper has introduced Jake Webster as its new president and general manager ahead of the 2026–27 ski season. Webster takes over the leadership role following Dan Torsell’s 14 years at the helm of the independent Colorado ski area.
Webster is looking to build on the mountain’s longstanding identity as an affordable, community-focused destination while introducing improvements to its operations and infrastructure.
Getting to Know Ski Cooper’s New Leader
Webster said one of the biggest things that attracted him to Ski Cooper was its commitment to providing an authentic, affordable family experience. He also pointed to the mountain’s rich history with the 10th Mountain Division and its ability to deliver the kind of skiing experience that many people grew up enjoying.
“What makes Ski Cooper a little different from other Colorado ski areas is the focus on authentic, affordable family experiences.” – Jake Webster.
Plans for Ski Cooper’s Future
Webster hopes to introduce improvements in two ways. The first involves smaller operational changes that can make the mountain run more smoothly, while the second involves larger infrastructure and building projects outlined in Ski Cooper’s master development plan.
He emphasized that future development should complement the surrounding area rather than dramatically changing the mountain’s character. He also described his leadership approach as hands-on, saying he wants to work alongside employees, learn the details of daily operations, and remain actively involved in the Leadville community.
