Wilmington, New York — The State of New York takes care of its three owned and operated ski resorts. This includes Whiteface, which has seen new lifts, lodges, and snowmaking upgrades in recent years. This offseason was no different.

2025’s marquee addition at Whiteface.

Last week, Whiteface Mountain detailed what they’ve been working on this offseason. The upgrades include snowmaking enhancements, repaving the main access roads, glade and trail work, two new snowcats, a new Lookout Mountain Patrol hut, new terrain park features, and renovations to the Bear Den Lodge.

That one guy’s impression of a snow gun in the video was on point.

Snowmaking was a major focus. 100 new HKD snowguns are being added across Whiteface. We purchased 16 new tower fan guns and are placing them across the mountain. These guns are for wider spaces compared to traditional stick guns. To support these new and other recent additions, 24,000 feet of pipe was installed.

For skiers, perhaps the most notable upgrade was removing the power line on the Essex trail. Removing the power line gives skiers more space for turns on skier’s right.

New Glade Incoming?

Another big upgrade could be coming.

Whiteface is planning to add a new glade off the Cloudsplitter Gondola. According to an application with the New York Forest Service, the glade would be between the Little Whiteface lift line and the Approach trail. The glade would require removing 273 trees and would be about 350 feet long and 80 feet wide. A timeline for this project has yet to be confirmed by the ski center.
