Arizona Snowbowl began snowmaking operations on October 13th as the Northern Arizona ski resort prepares for its scheduled November 20th opening, weather permitting. A recent cold front brought overnight temperatures low enough for crews to begin building an early-season snow base. aThe resort is taking advantage of the first suitable temperatures to prepare its terrain for skiers and snowboarders.
Snowmaking Reaches Multiple Runs
Crews have been making snow on Spur Catwalk, Lower Bowl, Log Jam, Wild Turkey and Round Up. Snowmaking operations have also extended coverage down to the base of the Arizona Gondola.
The resort expects snowmaking to continue overnight and whenever temperatures allow. Consistent cold weather will be important as Snowbowl works to establish sufficient coverage ahead of opening day.
Located on the San Francisco Peaks outside Flagstaff, Arizona Snowbowl relies on snowmaking to supplement natural snowfall and help prepare terrain for the start of winter operations.
New Snowmaking Equipment and Learning Area Upgrades
Arizona Snowbowl has invested more than $1 million in improvements ahead of the upcoming season. The projects include four new tower snow guns near Big Spruce, which are intended to improve snow coverage in the resort’s learning area.
Beginner terrain will also receive a new 150-foot conveyor lift named Sunshine. The conveyor will debut this winter alongside the existing Big Spruce and Little Spruce conveyors, providing another option for guests learning to ski and snowboard.
These improvements are part of the resort’s preparations for another winter season, with snowmaking now underway as temperatures begin to cooperate.
$9 Lift Tickets Available on Select Dates
Skiers and snowboarders planning a visit this winter can find advance-purchase lift tickets starting at just $9 on select dates for the 2026-27 season.
Arizona Snowbowl is currently scheduled to open on November 20th, although the date remains dependent on weather conditions.
