Jeffersonville, Vermont — In what could be the strangest ski industry story from this month, if not the whole summer, a driver under the influence led to a few injuries at a Vermont ski resort.
On the afternoon of July 13th, vacationers were enjoying one of the pools at Smugglers’ Notch Resort during a warm summer day. While some people were in the pool, they heard a loud “boom.” A large SUV slammed through a gate and then landed in the swimming pool.
The situation did lead to some free advertising for Notch Road Auto Repair Towing and Recovery, which typically has to deal with truck drivers who don’t read the signs that state you can’t bring a large truck into the Notch.
WCAX-TV provided an update on July 17th after securing court documents. Sadly, there were two children who were hurt in the crash. One of the individuals hurt was hit by the car following the driver crashing through the gate. She suffered some memory loss and had to go to the hospital.
The individual who crashed the vehicle was a twenty-year-old female from New Jersey. The driver was arrested and charged with a DUI. She pled not guilty to three charges: a DUI, gross negligent operation, and reckless endangerment. According to a passenger who was with her in the car, she said that the car started moving as soon as they put the key in. Attempts to pump the brakes didn’t work, which resulted in them losing control and crashing.
However, there seems to be a pool full of evidence that counters her plea. Authorities found that the driver’s BAC was almost twice the legal limit in Vermont.
