Aspen Snowmass and X Games have agreed to a new three-year host agreement that will keep the MoonPay X Games League at Buttermilk through the 2028/29 winter season, the organizations announced Tuesday.
The deal extends one of the longest-running partnerships in action sports, a relationship that dates to 2002 and has made Aspen a centerpiece of competitive freeskiing and snowboarding culture for more than two decades.
“Aspen Snowmass is where the best in freeskiing and snowboarding come to compete at the highest levels every year. We’ve proudly partnered with X Games for more than 25 years because we love their commitment to showcasing the energy and vibrancy of our sports on a global scale, while delivering an elevated experience for athletes and spectators alike.” – John Rigney, Chief Business Development Officer at Aspen One.
The agreement follows a structural shift in how X Games operates. The organization is launching the X Games League, a format built around regionally-based teams of drafted athletes who will compete across inaugural Summer and Winter seasons for a season championship. The XGL Winter season will launch in January 2027 with Aspen serving as its first stop.
“As the X Games League expands globally, Aspen remains our crown jewel, the iconic winter stop that athletes, fans, and partners circle on the calendar every year.” – Jeremy Bloom, X Games CEO.
Specific dates and details for X Games Aspen 2027 will be announced in the coming months.
