Tragic news out of Boulder County, Colorado, where a 4-year-old child has drowned after being swept approximately 1.5 miles downstream in South St. Vrain Creek.
The child and his family were camping west of the Town of Lyons when the incident occurred. Unfortunately due to limited cell service, family members were forced to flag down a passing motorist for a ride to an area with cell phone service, delaying the 911 call after the child was in the water.
The Boulder County Communications Center received the 911 call shortly before 5:30pm on Tuesday, June 2nd. First responders immediately launched an extensive search and rescue operations with multiple crews searching along the river. Swift water rescue teams and other first responders searched the area on foot, in vehicles, and by air with drone technology.
At about 7:07pm, the child was located around 1.5 miles downstream from where it’s believed he entered the water. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced deceased.

The incident remains under investigation, with the Boulder County Coroner’s Office conducting an independent investigation to determine the cause and manner of death. The individuals name will be released after a positive identification and notification of next of kin.
